In the match played on Monday, GT’s opening pair captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan gave their best performance by making a brilliant half-century, finishing at number one in the table and registered their fourth victory in the IPL 2025 by defeating last year’s champion Kolkata Knight Riders by 39 runs at Eden Gardens, Kolkata and took one more step forward towards the playoffs.

The opening left-right pair of the GT which came out to bat first made a century partnership and made a strong total of 198. In the packed Eden Gardens, KKR could only make 159 runs and had to face second consecutive defeat, this is KKR’s third defeat in four home matches.

Bowling with a new ball, Vaibhav Arora and Moeen Ali bowled with appropriate line and length, did not allow the GT to increase much in the initial overs.

Due to the ball stopping a bit on the pitch, Gill and Sudarshan initially kept on rotating the strike without taking any risk and made the mistake of scoring only 45 runs in the first powerplay and after that the initial bowlers were thrashed.

Gill (90, 55 balls, 10 fours, 3 sixes) showed his superiority in the seventh over, smashing 17 runs including a six and two fours off Moeen Ali to signal GT’s momentum.

Gill hit his first four in 12 balls against his old team, Gill’s stylish cut and pull short was worth watching.

Sudarshan (52, 36 balls, 6 fours, 1 sixes) who is in consistent form displayed his batting skills by hitting wonderful boundary on the off side and then his short on the on side was also excellent.

Captain Gill along with Sai Sudarshan played for GT against his old team, disappointed the host team by scoring a wonderful 114 runs in 75 balls.

Orange cap holder Sai Sudarshan made his fifth half century of IPL 2025 season and handed over his catch to the keeper on the ball of Andre Russell.

Gill then scored 58 off 33 balls along with Jos Buttler (41, 23 balls, 8 fours) who also batted superbly, but Vaibhav sent Gill to the pavilion before he could make his first century of the IPL 2025.

KKR came under pressure after seeing such a big total, Mohammed Siraj got wicket keeper batsman Rehmanullah Gurbaz out lbw and Rashid Khan got Sunil Narine out in the powerplay. GT’s bowlers bowled tight bowling and kept KKR from scoring any runs. KKR could not score a single boundary in 36 balls of the middle over due to which the required run rate increased. Ajinkya Rahane tried to give a little push to the team by scoring a half century but this effort could not help KKR win and KKR had to face their fifth defeat. Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna took two wickets each for GT.
