RCB ended CSK’s dominance in Chepauk! First win in Chennai after the first season of IPL

For the first time since IPL 2008, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their home ground Chepauk on March 28, 2025
Opening for RCB, Phil Salt gave a blazing start to the innings in the powerplay, putting the bowlers in a dizzy with his destructive shots. But a brilliant stumping by MS Dhoni ended his innings of 32(16). Devdutt Padikkal, who came in to bat at No. 3, also gave momentum to the team by scoring a quick 27(14). RCB’s strong start, will CSK be able to make a comeback?
Virat Kohli showed his intent by hitting a six and a four to Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, but was out after scoring 31 runs in 30 balls. On the other hand, RCB captain Rajat Patidar was dropped three times in just two overs, which he took full advantage of!
Rajat Patidar brought the team to a strong position by scoring 51 runs in 32 balls, which included 4 fours and 3 sixes. In the last over, Tim David hit three consecutive sixes against Sam Curran to take RCB’s score to 196/7. CSK’s Noor Ahmad bowled brilliantly and took 3 wickets!
CSK had a very bad start, where Josh Hazlewood sent Rahul Tripathi and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad to the pavilion in the second over. Deepak Hooda also got out early, and CSK was left faltering at just 26/3!
Rachin Ravindra and Sam Curran tried to build a partnership, but Curran got caught by Livingstone while playing a big shot. Wickets kept falling in the middle overs and CSK reached just 99/7, still 28 balls were left!
Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni raised the hopes of the fans for a while by adding 31 runs in 20 balls. After Jadeja was out, Dhoni hit two sixes and a four in the last over of Krunal Pandya but this effort could only reduce the score of the match a little and could not give the fans a win. Dhoni remained not out on 30(16)* and then CSK’s score board read 146/8. Hazlewood bowled a brilliant spell of 3/21 while Yash Dayal and Livingstone took 2 wickets each. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also took a wicket to his name on his RCB debut!
