IPL 2025 Points Table: Yuzvendra Chahal's hat-trick takes Punjab to second place, CSK's journey ends!

Chahal’s magic ends Chennai’s journey!

Punjab Kings leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took his second hat-trick in IPL 2025 to knock Chennai Super Kings (CSK) out of the tournament. In the match played at the Chepauk Stadium, Chahal restricted CSK to 185 runs in the 19th over by dismissing Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmed in three consecutive balls. After this, Shreyas Iyer (72 runs) and Prabhsimran Singh (54 runs) led Punjab to a 4-wicket win and moved to second place in the points table.

CSK’s sad record: Fifth home defeat!

This season was disappointing for Chennai. The team lost 5 out of 8 matches played at their home, which is proof of their poor performance. Despite the efforts of Sam Curran (88 runs) and Dewald Brevis (32 runs), CSK were out of the playoff race. This is the first time since 2010 that CSK was eliminated before the league stage.

  • Shreyas-Prabhsimran pair: 92-run partnership made the chase easy.
  • Captain Shreyas Iyer’s strategy: Aggressive field settings in bowling put pressure on CSK.

Will Punjab win its first IPL title?

Punjab Kings have proven themselves to be a strong candidate for the playoffs with 6 wins this season. Chahal’s form and the stability of the batting unit are plus points for the team. Coach Ricky Ponting said, “Our target is now towards the final.”
